November 2008 - Travel report Jerremy Tronet & Linn SvendSen
Ilha do Guajiru...
The north East of the Brazilian coast is an endless quest for kitespot discovery. From Fortaleza until Jericoacoara and after, hundreds of lagoons and wave spots become the perfect playground for us kiteboarders.
Most of the people coming in Brazil organize their holiday with 4 weel drive downwinders along the coast.
With Linn, I have been spending 2 months and a half in Cumbuco, one of my favorite kitespots in Ceara ( a region in Brazil). Cumbuco is a great place to meet people and train the latest freestyle moves.
But this year December haven't been as good as it should be, The wind was gone for a while, so we decided to head north and discover some new spots, new villages, different people.
After meeting Rob a duch kiteboarder and real estate developer we were very curious about this new place he has been pushing on internet and in some kite magazines, Ilha do Guajiru, the flat water sea. Asking around we got very different feedback from people some said that it was the best place ever.
The only way to find out was to go there and find out the truth about Ilha do Guajiru.
In a small rental car we headed north on the new high way to Itarema, a city 4 kms away from the island.
Ilha do Guajiru used to be an island, but it is now linked to the land so you can access it easily by car. It is surrounded by very beautiful mangroves and a river.
After spendiing a few days on the island, kiting everyday while the wind was much lighter in the spots located in the south, we have been seduced byt the people and the place here.
We decided to stay here for a while to make my next movie .
The spot is a very beautiful lagoon with a lot of space and different secret spots around.
At low tide the water gets very flat for freestyle.
The movie will hopefuly show this beautiful place, this way people will be able to make their own opinion about it.
We are staying at wind village, some very nice apartments 20 meters from where you can already do your tricks .... we have a nice view a a nice swiming pool. There are few nice pousadas with internet wifi like lagoa beach or Pura vida.
The first day we arrived on the spot our video camera broke ... Read the rest of this travel story and check out more pictures on www.jeremietronet.com
